Sleepys has been expanding as a store for a long while now.

It’s one of those things that has to happen if a retail chain is going to survive for fifty four years. Expansion is part of the game and it’s been outward, all over the place, on mostly the Eastern Seaboard.

They’ve gone north into Connecticut, and down south as far as North Carolina just recently and they’re getting bigger all the time.

At the same time, though, they’ve never really forgot where they came from. The very first store was established in Brooklyn, New York, all the way back in 1931. And Sleepys has been a huge presence not only in New York City but in the upstate area as well. Corporate headquarters is located in Hicksville, NY. The fact is, several of the first stores when the company was expanding are located in New York.

Just to give it some examples: in 1977, Sleepys moved to a bigger space that was located out of New Hyde Park. Headquarters were later moved to a space three times that size in Port Washington, New York. That was in 1986.

Later, headquarters was moved to Bethpage, New York, with a 150,000 square foot space in 1994. That was the same year that the 75th store opened. This place later got an 80,000 square foot expansion. There was a point later on in 2002 where they moved the store down to New Jersey. They stayed there for seven years before coming back up to New York, to the Hicksville facility where they keep a distribution center as well.

This, of course, overshadows the acquisitions and other expansions that Sleepys has been doing since they first started as a company.

But it makes total sense that they would. After all, they offer more mattress lines than anyone else. Furthermore, they expand their lines depending on where they expand into. They just picked up the Castle Collection and Carolina Mattress Guild lines of mattresses, and that was just within the past year.

They also carry Sealy, Simmons, Serta, and Tempur-Pedic, as well as Stearns and Foster, W Hotels, King Koil, and others.
